Our commitment
We think it’s important to plant new woodland and thereafter to preserve and manage it sustainably. The design and management of the woodland will sequester carbon while promoting habitat creation and biodiversity.
The woodland will be accessible to the wider community who will be encouraged to participate in the creation and ongoing maintenance of the woodland to benefit from the experience and educational opportunities this affords.

Wood Could Should CIC
Creating woodland and achieving these benefits is a long-term commitment and we recognise that we have to think in terms of years and decades rather than weeks and months. As individuals we hope to see the woodland close canopy but it will be our grandchildren and beyond who see it reach maturity.
For this reason we have set up ‘Wood Could Should’ – a not-for-profit company that owns the land and will be the long-term custodian of the new woodland.
Wood Could Should is formally a Community Interest Company (CIC) – a special type of limited company which exists for the benefit of the community. All CICs have their social purpose written into their constitution and the company assets are ‘locked’, that is they can only be used for those social objectives.

The team
The group of friends that instigated the project in early 2022 consist of, Lawrence Simanowitz and Madonna Benjamin, Adam Garfunkel and Andrea Horth and Kiran and Birgit Curtis. Lawrence is largely to blame, as he had actually written down ‘woodland creation’ on his bucket list as opposed to just having vague daydreams about rewilding as the rest of us did.
We’ve been on a steep learning curve over the last two years but bring a broad set of skills to the project from our day jobs and have been helped enormously by our advisors and partners. Lawrence, Adam and Kiran are formally the Wood Could Should CIC directors.
